Student Scholarship

The BCMEA is pleased to announce that the following scholarships continue to be available to graduating Secondary School students. There are five $500.00CAD scholarships available in the following categories:
  • Concert Choir
  • Concert Band
  • Vocal Jazz
  • Instrumental Jazz
  • String Orchestra
This opportunity is open to any student graduating in 2021 from a British Columbia Secondary School Music Program taught by a teacher who is currently a BCMEA member. Students should be able to perform at a very high level. Proof of graduation will be required before the awarding of the scholarship will be confirmed.
Application Procedure
  1. A personal letter in which the applicant self evaluates his/her personal musical and academic strengths as they apply to future studies and career plans (not necessarily in music). Please include a list of all extra-curricular activities
  2. A good quality MP3 or CD recording containing two (2) contrasting selections, with or without live or recorded accompaniment (max time: 10 minutes). Recordings should demonstrating outstanding musicality and a very high level of performance. Improvisation is optional but highly recommended for jazz candidates. The recording must start with the applicant’s name, introduction of instrument/voice and the titles of the two chosen selections.
  3. Two (2) letters of recommendation with one written by the applicant’s current high school music teacher. The music teacher’s letter must include a statement that he/she has listened to the audition recording and is a current member of BCMEA. Scholarship monies will be paid to the successful candidate’s designated post secondary institution upon receipt of proof of acceptance or fees paid. If the candidate has paid fees in full, it will be the responsibility of the institution to offer a refund to the candidate. Scholarship monies are for tuition only and will not be paid to individuals. The submitted application package must be post-marked on or before Friday May 27, 2022.

    All recordings should be of the best quality possible. Good quality recording equipment should be used. All MP3s submitted will become the property of the BCMEA Scholarship Committee.
