Mission Statement
The BCMEA is focused on building a caring, collaborative community of passionate music educators through professional development, ultimately for the benefit of students. Our Association is governed by an Executive Committee comprised of elected Table Officers, Members-at-Large, and a representative from each Chapter across British Columbia.
Objectives Of The BCMEA
In conjunction with the other Provincial Specialist Associations, the BCMEA holds its annual conference in October of each year. The conference is our principal professional development program. The conference is prepared and organized for BC teachers, by BC teachers.
Music Educators who work with students or young people in the communities across British Columbia will benefit from attending and participating.

Objectives Of The BCMEA
- To advocate for accessible and equitable music programs in every BC school.
- To advocate for safe and appropriate learning and working conditions and spaces for students and teachers of music.
- To advocate for all music classes to be taught by trained music specialists.
- To advocate for reconciliation through music education.
- To facilitate and advocate for teacher-led professional development, in-service, and professional learning opportunities.
- To advocate for music to be a recognized specialty teaching area.
- To promote the concept that the arts, including music, are essential components of a student’s education.
- To promote excellence of music instruction and the concept of a sequential music curriculum in every BC school.
- To encourage all music educators to become members of the BCMEA.
- To support and encourage development of chapters and the growth of their programs.
- To represent BC students’ and music educators’ best interests to the BCTF.
